DISTRICT LA BREA ANNOUNCES THE ADDITION OF FLAGSHIP CHAMPION STORE,

Now Fully Leased, District La Brea’s Evolution into a Launching Platform for Edgy First-To-Market Retail Brands is Complete

District La Brea, a lifestyle destination featuring carefully curated apparel, home design, eateries and creative office space along Los Angeles’ famed La Brea Avenue (www.districtlabrea.com), today announced that Champion Athleticwear has opened its first-ever U.S. store at 123 South La Brea Avenue. The opening of the new Champion flagship store marks a significant milestone for the shopping district which has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years to become a launch-pad for exciting first-to-market brands, including those that are first to the west coast and first to the U.S. as well as next-gen online-only stores opening their first-ever brick-and-mortar locations. With the addition of Champion’s new flagship store, District La Brea’s transformation of an entire city block into an edgy, eclectic urban shopping district is complete and the center is now fully leased.

“At District La Brea, we’ve developed what we call the ‘creative collective,’ an inspired combination of retail, dining and remarkable office space. While remaining an authentic part of the Los Angeles community, we’ve successfully transformed an entire city block into a springboard for first-to-market retail concepts, most of which – like the new flagship Champion store – connect in new, very direct and never-before-experienced ways with customers,” says Scarlet Garcia, Experiential Marketing Director, District La Brea. “We’ve also taken the La Brea name from one synonymous with individual retailers to one that respected international brands consider a coveted location. And we’ve created a culture and reputation heavily influenced by the fashion and film industries as being ‘the’ place to go for fashion-forward streetwear, something which made District La Brea very attractive to Champion and the absolute right location for its first-ever American storefront.”

Like Champion, other recently added retail tenants such as Interior Define and Best Made exemplify the original vision and merchandising strategy for District La Brea. The brand expression executed for District La Brea has set it apart from other nearby areas as a sought-after destination for well-capitalized emerging and first-to-market retail names seeking a high-profile Los Angeles location with a dynamic co-tenancy.

Itself an iconic brand founded in 1919, Champion’s novel approach to athleisure streetwear has resulted in a resurgence of popularity among American youth. To connect on a deeper level with its shoppers, Champion’s La Brea location will offer on-site customization of its merchandise, allowing shoppers to design their own unique name-brand Champion garments made-to-order on demand. In addition to its traditional athletic wear, the new La Brea Champion store will also offer exclusive products not available elsewhere, and frequent product drops will take place from the company’s global lines. Regional collections inspired by the store’s new Southern California locale and partnerships with local influencers will also be available in a variety of exclusive styles and colors.

Champion opened its doors at District La Brea in early April, welcoming hundreds of anxious shoppers who crowded into the new location to shop the brand’s traditional Reverse Weave pieces and to get a first glimpse of the store’s new look. Offering a distinctly modern nod to its American athletic wear positioning as well as its sportswear heritage, the new Champion store features reclaimed basketball court hardwoods, gym lockers and metal mesh mirroring the mesh fabric Champion pioneered.
